(NewsDakota.com) – Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist says the county commission extended the county’s burn ban and fire emergency declaration until at least April 3 at Tuesday morning’s commission meeting.

The burn ban is in effect when the North Dakota Rangeland Fire danger index is in the ‘very high’ or ‘extreme’ index and/or a Red Flag Warning is in effect. It encompasses all open burning and includes all of the county’s incorporated cities except Jamestown.

The National Weather Service Fire Weather Index can be found at http://www.crh.noaa.gov/bis/?n=fireweather

Anyone who willfully violates the burn ban is guilty of a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by up to a $1,000 fine and 30 days in jail.
