(NewsDakota.com) The defending State Class A Football Champions started the 2017 post-season on the right foot with an impressive 49-24 victory over Harvey/Wells County in the opening round of the post-season Saturday afternoon.

The two teams battled in the first quarter, with HWC (4-5) having an 8-7 lead after the first quarter. However, from the onset of the second quarter, it was the Thunder’s game. Clayton Grueneich scored three times in a row, and finished with five for the day, EEK even added one in the waining seconds of the opening half on a 25 yard strike from Jake Dewald to Lane Hanson.

The victory also marked the first time that EEK had won a game at Edgeley since the formation of the cooperative between the communities.

Fifth-ranked EEK (8-1) will advance to the second round, with a trip to Langdon to meet the Cardinals of Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich (9-0); ranked second in the state. The Carindals defeated Kindred 31-0 Saturday.
