N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—–The MPB (Medina-Pingree-Buchanon) Thunder went 6-0 on the day and capped it off with a 2-0 (25-21, 25-20) victory over the host team Carrington. The Thunder did not drop a set all day, defeating Harvey-WC, Velva-Sawyer, and New Rockford-Sheyenne in pool play. The Thunder defeated Harvey-WC again in the quarterfinals and Edgely-Kulm-Montpeiler in the semifinals to reach the title match versus Carrington. The Cardinals went 5-1 on the day and were perfect in set play as well until the championship match. The Cards defeated Jamestown JV, Strasburg-Zeeland, and Bishop Ryan in pool play. The Cardinal’s knocked off Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky in the quarterfinals and Rugby in the semifinals.

The Thunder jumped out to a 10-1 lead over Carrington in the first set and held on to a 25-21 victory. Set 2 was much closer throughout the set, but the Thunder put together a late surge to put the set and match away 25-20 and captured the 2017 title. Halle Uehran led the Thunder with 11 kills and teammate Taylor Sabinash added 9 kills to lead the Thunder to the victory. The Thunder improved to 26-3 overall.

Kaedyn Mehring paced Carrington with 7 kills. Mehring led Carrington with 39 kills during the tournament. Bella Hone added 33 kills and led the Cards with 9 stuff blocks on the day. Emerson Hoornaert and McKayla McIntosh added 31 kills. Amber Pierce led the Cards with 9 aces and McIntosh added 8 aces. Carrington finished the day with an overall record of 20-7.

EKM defeated Rugby in the third place match 2-0 (25-7, 25-18). Rugby entered the tourney with a 20-1 overall record, finishing in fourth place, and now 24-3 on the season.
