(NewsDakota.com) After a winless season in 2016, the Oakes High football team will be competing in the Class 9-Man playoffs next week after a 23-12 victory against Strasburg/Zeeland Friday night at Cummings Field; ensuring the number four seed out of Region III.
The Tornadoes (4-4, 3-3 Region III) scored the bulk of their points in the first half. Tyler Voightman received a 25 yard pass from Garrett Meehl on the team’s first drive, and later ran one in from 10 yards out. Meehl also converted on a 23 yard field goal in the second quarter.
The Clippers (2-6, 15) got on the board in the second half, on a six yard run by quarterback Alex Scheer, and scored late in the game on a 47 yard scamper courtesy of AJ VanderVorst.
