NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The New Rockford-Sheyenne School District is working towards major renovations in their schools and has a special vote planned for October 17th.
The proposed wall renovation is part of the district’s major facility improvements that include the energy efficiency project. Jill Louters, Superintendent for New Rockford-Sheyenne schools, says the school board appropriated some dollars in 2016 to look into replacing windows on the north side of the school.
Louters says those issues found by the contractor led to the need for more than just window replacement.
The proposed renovations led to a larger project, which consists of replacing unit ventilators, air pressure temperature control system, electrical upgrades and rebuilding exterior windows and walls. The total cost for the new construction is estimated to be around $19.8 million.
Louters says most of the renovations will be updating parts of the school that haven’t been upgraded since 1954 construction of the school. She says the proposed bond will be up for special voting on October 17th for the public.
The special vote will be for the wall renovation, which is estimated to cost $3.2 million. The board found that the proposed tax increase would total around $63.77 for a $100,000 valued home. The board feels the need for an upgrade will be a protection of assets, improve air quality and prepares the school for the future.
