Ettl, a 5’3” combo-guard has signed a letter-of-intent to play her college basketball at Valley City State University according to head coach Jill DeVries.
Ettl averaged 19 points and 10 assists in her senior season at Yokota High School, a U.S. Department of Defense school in Mainland Japan. She is a four-year starter and 4-time All-Conference performer in the 7-team Kanto Plains League.
“We are very excited to have Erika join our program. When I saw her at basketball camp last summer, I was impressed with her skill-set. She has great footwork and a very high basketball I.Q.” said DeVries. “When I met her and her parents, I knew immediately that she is the kind of person we want in our program.”
Ettl has also been named to the Stars and Stripes All-Pacific team twice (only 5 players picked Pacific-wide), and has been All-Far East in her junior and senior seasons (12 players chosen from 16 schools including some in Guam, Korea, Philippines, Okinawa and Hong Kong.)
“Erika is a game changer. She can score in so many ways, but what is even more impressive is how she distributes the ball. She is fun to watch and I believe she will become a favorite of a lot of Viking fans.” says DeVries.
Ettl ends her career at Yokota High School as the all-time leader in both scoring (1846 points) and assists (612) in 38 years of school history.
