(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High volleyball team earned their first victory in Class B District 5 play in the 2017 season with a 3-1 win over Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier Thursday night.

Oakes won by scores of 19-25, 25-14, 25-14 and 25-18. The Tornadoes (5-4, 1-1 Class B District 5) had a total of 46 kills, lead by Nicole Schmitz with 19 and Taylor Roney with 14. Roney and Sadie Hansen each had five aces, with Schmitz picking up three.

EKM (2-3, 0-2) had 26 kills, 13 of them from Katie Entzi. Tallie Hanson had two of the Rebels’ six aces.

Both teams next suit up in the Valley City Optimist Tournament on Saturday, September 16. The Tornadoes return to District 5 play Tuesday the 19th when they host Ellendale. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starts around 7 p.m. Tuesday.
