N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – History will be made when newly appointed Southeast Judicial District Judge Cherie Clark officially takes her seat Friday.

Earlier this year, Governor Doug Burgum appointed Clark to the court. She was a prosecutor in Fargo since 2006 and previously worked as an Assistant County Attorney in Otter Tail County, Minnesota. She’ll be chambered in Jamestown.

Clark will have her investiture held at 3 PM at the Stutsman County Courthouse. This event marks the transition from serving as a lawyer to serving as a judge. It will include taking the judge’s oath and “robing”, where she will ceremonially accept the judicial robe and gavel.

Presiding Judge Daniel Narum states that they are expecting many visitors for the investiture.

“We are expecting many district court judges and supreme court justices and the governor to be in attendance,” Judge Narum reported. “There will be a number of attorneys in attendance. The ceremony is open to the public, but seating is limited.”

Judge Clark was nominated following the retirement of Judge John Greenwood.
