N.D. (NewsDakota.com)——The Carrington Cardinal football team racked up 390 yards of total offense and knocked off the Hornets of Harvey-Wells County 34-8. Payton Smith was 4-4 passing for 71 yards and 2 TD’S, and Hayden Schmitz went 4-7 for 70 yards and another TD. Drew Page led the Cardinal rushing attack with 116 yards on 18 carries and scored a TD (4th of the year). Page scored on a 45 yard run, giving the Cards an early 7-0 lead. Kayden Wolsky added 12 carries for 75 yards and a TD (2nd of the year). Wolsky scored from 34 yards out earli in the third quarter giving the Cards a 21-0 lead. Lucas Geiszler added 59 yards on the ground on just 4 carries including a 54 yard TD run that put the Cards up 34-0 with 4:37 left in the game. Kolton Vetter caught a 20 yard TD pass and Trey Rosenau hauled in a 10 yard TD catch both from Payton Smith. Rosenau led the Cards with 3 catches for 67 yards and Jayden Shipman added a pair of catches for 41 yards.
The Hornets only score of the night came from Alec Meranda, a 52 yard run with 1:08 left in the game and Meranda added a successful 2 point run to make it a 34-8 final score. The Hornets completed 3 of 16 passes in the game for a minus 8 yards and had 2 interceptions. The Hornets turned the ball over 6 times in all, putting their defense in a tough spot all night. The Hornets dropped to 0-2 (0-1 Region 2 class A), and Carrington improved to 2-0 (1-0 Region 2 class A).
