CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Barnes County jail maybe showing its age as a structure but it has a lot of history to see inside the first jail registry book.

Sheriff Randy McClaflin told the Barnes County Commissioners that the North Dakota Historical Society expressed an interest in taking the 126 plus year old jail registry book and showcasing it inside the state museum in Bismarck.

The commission voted unanimously to keep the book in Barnes County but to allow the Historical Society to display it in the museum for a short period of time if they make a request to do so in the future.

The Barnes County jail registry shows entries as early as 1891. Below are photos of a couple of Barnes County jail registry books displayed during a regular commission meeting on August 1st.
