N.D. (NewsDakota.com)——Carrington (Post 25) kept it’s season alive and still has a chance to win their fourth consecutive state class B legion title with a 6-0 win over Oakes (Post 36). Post 25 will play Thompson (only unbeaten team left in tournament) on Saturday. Thompson (Post 181) defeated the Nelson County Owls (Post 162) in the semifinal round 7-1. The host team, Kidder County (Post 231) picked up a 4-1 victory over the Enderlin Railcats (Post 221). Oakes and Enderlin season’s come to an end for the 2017 season with their losses.

Carrington  6     Oakes  0

Post 25 scored all 6 runs of the game in their first 4 at bats and starting pitcher Lucas Geiszler threw a 4 hit shutout to pickup the victory for Carrington. Trey Rosenau went 3-4 and had 1 RBI for Post 25. Kyle Leapaldt 2-4, 2 RBI, and Jayden Rosenau also went 2-4 with an RBI to pace Carrington’s 12 hit attack. Eight Post 25 players had at least 1 hit in the game. Michael Kelly took the loss on the mound for Oakes and Taylor Schall went 2-2 with a walk to lead Oakes offensively. Trey Juran and Sam Huffman added 1 hit each for Oakes. Post 36 wrapped up its season with a 14-11 overall record and Carrington improved to 27-6 overall.

Kidder County  4     Enderlin  1

Dillon Steinolfson pitched a 3 hit shutout and went 2-3 at the plate including a 2 run homerun in the third inning to give the home team a 2-0 lead. Steinolfson struck out 11 batters, hit 2 batters, and allowed 3 walks (all intentional to Jorun Hamre). The Railcats only run came in the fourth inning with 1 out back-to-back doubles from Jake Pulkrabek and Adam Stenson scored Pulkrabek. Brandon Utke had the only other hit in the game for Enderlin. Railcats starting pitcher Peter Lindgren struck out 8 Kidder County batters and issued 1 walk and 1 hit batter. Enderlin finished up their 2017 season with a 25-5 overall record. Kidder County improved to 9-20 overall.

Semifinal  Thompson  7     Nelson County  1

Tied at 1-1 after three and a half innings Thompson scored 5 runs in the bottom of the fourth and led 6-1. Post 181 would add another run in the fifth inning and win the game 7-1. Tyler Hegg allowed 1 run on 4 hits, struck out 10 batters, issued 1 walk, and 1 hit batter to earn the victory. Cadyn Schwabe went 3-3 for Thompson, scored 2 runs. Hayden Overby and Cole Sorby both collected 2 hits and drove in 1 run. Marcus Hughes drove in 2 runs and scored 1 run for Post 181. Nelson County scored their lone run in the fourth inning on a Eric Salveson RBI single that plated Hunter Gibson who walked to start the inning and moved to third on Coton Berg’s (2-3) double. Bradyn Sand had the only other hit for the Owls. Salveson took the loss on the mound for Nelson County. The Owls dropped to 42-8 overall and Thompson improved to 26-5 overall.

Kidder County will play Nelson County 35 minutes after the first game ends.
