(NewsDakota.com) Things started off well enough for the LaMoure Babe Ruth baseball team in their opening round contest at the State Tournament in Thompson Friday night. Despite a late rally, things did not end well, and LaMoure’s in a win-or-go-home scenario Saturday.

After trailing 2-0 after the first inning, Nelson County scored six in a row. LaMoure pulled to within two in the sixth, but stranded the bases loaded, and ended up losing to the Owls 10-4.

Davian Forde earned the win for the Owls, going five innings, allowing six hits while striking out five. Mac Biermann was the losing pitcher for LaMoure, lasting four and two-thirds innings, striking out seven. Alan Zwirner had three hits in the defeat.

LaMoure plays at 1:30 Saturday against Langdon. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starts at 1:20 p.m.
