N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Day two of the 2017 American Legion State Class B Baseball Tournament kicked off on Thursday morning with four games at Pirate Field. The first two games were elimination games, and the second two were the winners brackets games. Here are the results:
Enderlin 4 Hazen 2
Last year Hazen finished runner-up to Carrington at the State B, this year, they go 0-2. Jorum Hamre had two home runs, including a 3-run blast to left center in the bottom of the third inning and a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth inning for Enderlin. Hazen scored first, scoring two runs in the top of the third, but Hamre’s home runs put Enderlin Post 221 Railcats up for good. Adam Stenson picked up the victory of the mound, working 6 2/3’s, giving up two runs, four hits with nine strikeouts. Payton Leintz took the loss. Haxen ends their season at 22-10 overall. Enderlin improved to 25-4.
Oakes 3 Burlington 0
Oakes Post 36 cinderella season stays alive as they shutout the Bulldogs. Taylor Schall picked up the victory on the mound, pitching a three-hit shutout. Jarrett Vendsel took the loss. Schall at the plate was 1-for-3 with a single and scored two runs. Burlington ends their season at 17-12.
Nelson County 2 Carrington 0
In an absolute pitching gem for Jaydon Grover of Nelson County, Post 25 scored no runs and just three hits. Grover pitched the complete game with just 88 pitches, eight strikeouts and one walk. Kyle Leapaldt took the loss, working seven innings, two runs, four hits, five walks and five strikeouts on 105 pitches. Nelson County improves to 42-7, Carrington drops to 26-6.
Thompson 9 Kidder County 1
Thompson Post 181 scored the first nine runs of the game and beat KC Post 231 in the last game Thursday. Marcus Hughes picked up the victory, working all seven innings, one run on eight hits and was one of the players of the game. Lead-off man Cadyn Schwabe was also a player of the game, reaching base three times, with a double and single and scored a run. Taking the loss was Dalten Jangula.
Day three will start at noon and will feature three games, here is the schedule:
12pm – Oakes vs. Carrington, elimination game
35 minutes after – Enderlin vs. Kidder County, elimination game
35 minutes after – Nelson County vs. Thompson
The first game will be aired on both AM 1600 KDAK and AM 1220 KDDR starting about 11:45am pregame, the second game can be heard on Q101.1 FM, and both of the first games will be streamed online at newsdakota.com.
