Rockford, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—–The Carrington American Legion baseball team defeated Hillsboro-CV (H-CV) 10-1 and captured it’s third Central Region title in the past four years. Carrington (Post 25) has won three straight class B legion titles and will have a chance to win their fourth consecutive title starting next week in Steele.
Post 25 outscored their tournament foes 41-1 and allowed just 8 base hits over 24 innings. Post 25 pitcher’s allowed only 3 walks in the entire tournament and zero hit batters.
Carrington scored 2 first inning runs in the title game thanks to Braxton Hewitt’s run scoring double plating Jayden Rosenau. Hewitt scored later on a H-CV throwing error. Post 25 added 2 more runs in the fourth inning and blew the game open scoring 6 runs in the sixth inning. Drew Page went 2-3 and drove in 2 runs to lead Carrington offensively. Trey Rosenau and Jayden Shipman had 2 RBI as well. Payton Smith, Hewitt, Kyle Leapaldt (scored 3 runs), Shipman, and Trey Rosenau all had 1 hit. Shipman pitched the first five inningsand earned the mound victory. Shipman allowed just 1 run on 4 hits. Shipman struck out 3 batters and did not allow any walks. Leapaldt pitched a perfect sixth inning and Garrett Bickett finished the game on the mound recording the final three outs in the seventh.
H-CV scored in the second inning after Eli Nelson tripled to deep centerfield and scored on Colton Anderson’s RBI single. The Blue Sox finished the year with a 22-10 overall record but will make it to the state tournament as the number 2 seed from the Central region. Kidder County who is hosting the state tournament automatically gets the second seed as the host team. Kidder County went 0-2 in the Central Region tournament and were the number 6 seed.
Carrington will play Hazen at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday morning in Steele, the first game of the 2017 state class B tourney.
