Rockford, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)——–The Hillsboro-CV (H-CV) Blue Sox scored 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the Mayville-Portland (M-P) Patriots 6-2 and advance to the championship game versus Carrington. M-P scored 2 unearned runs in the top of the first inning and could not find anymore offense against Blue Sox starting pitcher Tanner Linnell. After the first inning, Linnell faced just 20 Patriot batters in the final 6 innings and retired the final 8 batters of the game in order. The Blue Sox scored 1 run in the second inning on a bases loaded hit batter but left the bases loaded after a strikeout and a groundout. H-CV scored all five runs in the sixth inning with 2 outs. Gavin Wright delivered the first big hit with a 2 run single scoring Connor Aanderud and Patrick Limke. Linnell followed with an RBI single scoring Ryan Troftgruben making it 4-2 Blue Sox. Riley Peterson capped off the 5 run inning with a 2 run single scoring Wright and Linnell. M-P season ends with a 16-10 0verall record and the Blue Sox improved to 22-9.

M-P started the day with a 9-3 victory over the Gardner Express in an elimination game. The Patriots led 4-2 heading to the 5th inning. Three runs in the 5th and 1 more run in the 6th put the game away for the Patriots, winning 9-3. Jackson Braaten pitched all 7 innings to earn the win. Reese Hanson, Sammy Satrom, and Sawyer Satrom all had 2 hits to lead the Patriots offensively. Noah Bring went 3-3 for Gardner. The Express finished their season at 4-17 overall and M-P improved to 16-9.

The championship game between H-CV and Carrington will start at 1:00 on Saturday and pregame at 12:45 on AM 1600 KDAK and www.newsdakota.com  If H-CV wins the first game a second championship game would start 30 minutes after the first game ends.
