LAKE (NewsDakota.com) – There will be a new state champion in Class B girls basketball this year.

Midkota outscored No. 1 Carrington 14-4 in the fourth quarter Tuesday night in Devils Lake, rallying from a 42-34 deficit to upset the defending state champs 49-46 in the Region 4 semifinals.

Shaye Ronningen scored 20 points to lead Midkota, and Emily Berge added 17 for the Mustangs, who will take on Lakota-Adams-Edmore in the title game Thursday night.

Emily Thompson scored 23 to lead Carrington in the loss.

In the other semifinals, Lakota-Adams-Edmore defeated North Star 62-56. North Star plays Carrington at 6 p.m. in Thursday’s third place game. Midkota will take on LAE in the championship at about 7:30 p.m., as they battle for a spot in the Class B State Tournament.
