(NewsDakota.com) – The Stutsman County Commission approved implementing a key card security system for the Stutsman County Courthouse and Law Enforcement Center at a Tuesday commission meeting.
The commission accepted a bid of about $46,000 from Electronic Communications Inc. to install the system at both the courthouse and LEC, which will be an upgrade from the current traditional key entry. An employee’s ID badge will act as their entry card at various doors once the system is implemented.
Part of the project is covered by grant money. County auditor Casey Bradley says the improvement was recommended by a security assessment and vulnerability study. Bradley says the system keeps a log of everybody that goes through secure doors in the building.
Courthouse maintenance supervisor Jim Fettig says implementing the system will likely take about a month once started. He says the current locks would have needed replacement in the near future.
