N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Valley City Post #60 took to the field for their first action of the summer Wednesday afternoon at Casselton. Post 60 would come out on the wrong end of the 2 games, loosing the first game 6-5 and the second game 9-5.
GAME 1: Casselton 6 VC 5
In what turned out to be a great pitchers dual of a game, came down to the last inning where all the offense happened. VC gave up 2 runs in the first inning and that would be all the scoring till the 7th inning. Trailing 2-0 entering the top of the 7th Post 60 would come up with 5 runs. The big hit being a double by Stephan Brooks to drive in 2 runs. Casselton would end up picking up 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th to ruin the come back bid of Post 60.
Nate Rodriguez would get the start for VC, and went all 6 innings. He was tagged for 6 runs,4 earned,on 6 hits while walking 2 and striking out 12.
At the plate VC earned 6 hits, lead by Brooks and Sam Jenson with 2 each. Post 60 would collect 12 walks in the contest but the big blow is leaving 11 runners on base.
GAME 2: Casselton 9 VC 5
Casselton would score 9 runs in the first 3 innings to build a lead that Post 60 couldn’t come back from.
VC next plays Friday at home against Wahpeton starting at 5:30.
