N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Red River Valley & Western Railroad which operates the line through Lisbon marked their 30th Anniversary this summer with free ride with an antique locomotive. They had runs from Davenport to Lisbon and from Wahpeton to Kindred June 1st thru June 3rd.
Back on July 19 of 1987, the Red River Valley & Western Railroad began operationing on track it acquired from Burlington Northern Railroad. Since then the railroad has added more track and been recognized as one of the most successful regional railroads in the United States.
To mark its 30th Anniversary, Red River Valley & Western and the Friends of the 261 teamed up to offer a series of special anniversary excursion train trips pulled by the antique Milwaukee Road steam locomotive No. 261.
Dan Zink is a spokesman for Red River Valley & Western Railroad. He said the locomotive was provided by the Minneapolis based Friends of the 261, a nonprofit volunteer group that aims to promote public understanding of the history of railroading in the Upper Midwest.
