N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown’s Atonement Lutheran Church recently donated a contribution of ,667.50 to the South Central Homeless Coalition for assistance in purchasing diapers and wipes for regional food pantries.

In a release from the South Central Homeless Coalition, the donation will help them with their goals of advocating, coordinating, and optimizing services for homeless men, women, and children within Region 6.

“The Coalition is so thankful to Atonement Lutheran for the generous contribution to helping WIPE OUT the diaper need in our region,” states Cassie DuBray, a member of the South Central Homeless Coalition. “Diapers and Wipes were special ordered and purchased from Hugo’s Family Marketplace. This donation precedes the 2nd annual diaper drive which will be this summer and is scheduled to begin July 1st.”

The Homeless Coalition reports that inn North Dakota, 19% of children under the age of 18 are infants or toddlers. In Stutsman County alone 13% of the population are children below the federal poverty level. Federal funding like SNAP food stamps do not help pay for diapers.

“Without diapers, parents can’t send their children to childcare and without child care, a parent cannot work,” DuBray pointed out.

South Central Region VI serves Barnes, Dickey, Foster, Griggs, LaMoure, Logan, McIntosh, Stutsman, and Wells counties.
