N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Water safety is being stressed by the North Dakota Game & Fish Department.

Game & Fish Biologist Doug Leier reports that a boat and water safety course is offered by the department and it’s not just for young children. The course is required though for youth ages 12 through 15.

State law requires the youngsters who want to operate a boat or personal watercraft alone to take the course. The home-study course is free, but students will be charged a fee to take it online. The online provider is the one who charges for the course.

Some course topics include legal requirements, navigation rules, accidents and special items like weather and life saving.
