N.D. (VCSUVikings.com)- Seri Giesler defended her championship in the javelin and Dennis Gonzalez won the 10,000 meter in the first day of The NSAA Track and Field Championships Thursday in Jamestown. The meet wraps up Friday with events starting at 10 am in Jamestown.
Women’s Results
Valley City State sophomore Seri Geisler needed just one throw to defend her conference championship in javelin on Thursday at the NSAA Track & Field Outdoor Championships.
Geisler’s first toss in the javelin went for 46.28 meters, which easily held up as the top throw at the meet and beat second place by more than eight meters. It also set a new conference meet record, breaking her own mark from last season. It is Geisler’s fifth conference title of her career and her third outdoor conference title. She is the favorite to pick up another title on Friday as she enters the shot put competition with the top throw in the NSAA.
The top three finishers in each event earn All Conference at the meet, while the top six finishers earn team points. VCSU’s women are in fourth place out of six teams after scoring 20 team points on day one.

Kaitlin Connor also picked up an All Conference finish on Thursday after a strong second-place finish in the triple jump. Her mark of 10.44 meters placed her second out of 11 competitors. Connor will also be in the hunt for All Conference in the long jump on Friday.
Marilyn Quintero had a Top 5 finish for the Vikings on Thursday, finishing fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 40.79 meters.
In preliminary races on Thursday, VCSU’s Macy Dimler qualified third in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.97 seconds. Finals for the event are Friday afternoon.

Men’s Results
VCSU junior Dennis Gonzalez won the Men’s 10K conference title and set a new meet record Thursday as the Viking track and field team competed on day one of the North Star Athletic Association Track & Field Outdoor Championships.
Gonzalez blew away the competition in the 10,000 meter race, winning by more than a minute as he crossed the line in a conference meet record time of 33:19.17. That shattered the previous conference meet record by more than 44 seconds, which was held by Eddie Meneses of Dickinson State.

The top three finishers in each event earn All Conference at the meet, while the top six finishers earn team points. VCSU is fifth out of six teams after scoring 24 team points on day one.
Garret Roemmich and Ellwood Ellenson took two of the top four spots in the men’s javelin competition. Roemmich earned All Conference by placing second with his toss of 51.77 meters. Ellenson finished fourth with a throw of 49.00 meters.
Ellenson had a busy day one of the meet as he also competed in the men’s triple jump, where he placed sixth with a mark of 12.73 meters.
During preliminary races on Thursday, VCSU’s Isaiah Tivis and Brady Morden both qualified for the finals of the 100 Meter Dash, which will be run Friday afternoon. Tivis qualified fourth with a time of 11.27 seconds. Morden qualified eighth with a time of 11.50.
