N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A woman in North Dakota has been taken for 40-thousand dollars in a phone scam.

Assistant Attorney General Parrell Grossman says the victim answered a call from someone claiming that her Microsoft computer needed an upgrade.  The caller convinced her to purchase iTunes gift cards and used information she provided to skim the value of the cards.

Grossman, the director the state’s consumer protection division, says there’s little chance that the woman will get her money back.

He does say that he and other consumer fraud investigators around the country are seeing signs that companies who are misrepresented are willing to cancel phony transactions so people aren’t out any money.
