(NewsDakota.com)- For the second time in nine days, the Jamestown boys basketball team took the floor against the St. Mary’s Saints. This time there was a little bit more at stake in the opening round of the WDA tournament. The Saints took down the Blue Jays 86-76.
The game played out very similar to the previous meeting where the Saints won 81-74. The Blue Jays kept rallying, but were unable to take control of the game in the second half.
On three occasions the Jays were down by double-digits and trimmed the lead to four or less, but each time the Saints had an answer.
Ben Weisbeck and Darius Sparks were awesome in the second-half for the Saints. Weisbeck finished with 26 and Sparks had 21, 17 of those in the second-half.
If it wasn’t for the hot shooting of Ryan Schlenker (23 points) the Blue Jays would have been out of the game early. Schlenker drilled some key threes and picked up some valuable offensive rebounds.
The Blue Jays will battle Belcourt today at the Exhibit Hall beginning at 2:45. The Braves gave Mandan a scare in their opening round contest yesterday. The winner moves on to a state qualifier and the losers season comes to an end.
The game will broadcast on KQDJ-AM and streamed live at NewsDakota.com
