Rockford, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—-The Carrington Cardinal baseball team scored 3 runs in the third inning on 3 consecutive hits and defeated the S-NR Blacksox for the 2nd time in 4 days with a 3-1 victory. The Cards were supposed to host the Blacksox but mother nature added more unneeded moisture onto the baseball field and forced the Cards to change the venue 16 miles north to New Rockford.

Payton Smith (RBI single), Jayden Shipman (RBI double), and Braxton Hewitt (RBI single) delivered all the offense the Cards would need in the third inning. Lucas Geiszler also had a single to start the rally with one out and courtesy runner Garrett Bickett scored the first of the Cards runs. Carrington only had 5 hits in the game (4 of them in the 3rd inning), also picked up a base hit from Kyle Leadaldt in the fourth inning.

Cardinal starting pitcher Jayden Shipman allowed just 1 unearned run in the game and held the Blacksox to just 2 hits, both coming in the 5th inning. Tucker Longnecker scored the lone S-NR run after leading off the 5th with a double, he later scored on a 2 out infield throwing error after an infield single from Bo Belquist. Shipman struck out 5 batters, allowed 1 walk, and 1 hit batter to pick up the win. Shipman threw just 87 pitches. Cole Myhre took the loss on the mound for S-NR. Myhre allowed all 3 runs and struck out 3 batters. Carrington improved to 7-3 overall and 6-1 in Region 3 play. The Blacksox dropped to 5-5 overall and 3-4 in Region 3 play. Carrington travels to Thompson on Tuesday and the game will be aired on AM 1600 KDAK and newsdakota.com with the pregame starting at 4:15 and first pitch scheduled at 4:30.
