ND (NewsDakota.com)- Nine Express Wrestlers took the opportunity to compete in in the ND State Freestyle and Greco-Roman Tournaments to conclude the 2016-2017 season this past Saturday.
Freestyle and Greco-Roman are styles of wrestling that are most often associated with Olympic and International Wrestling. Freestyle and Greco differ slightly from Folkstyle wrestling (the style that is wrestled in schools and colleges in the United States) in that the scoring is based more on high-amplitude throws and turns vs strategy and control that is common in Folkstyle wrestling. Greco Roman wrestling is upper body only. Participants are not allowed to touch or attack their opponents legs.
Kallen Hansen, Ethan Miller and Parker Larson all took home the coveted Triple Crown of Wrestling. To complete the Triple Crown, wrestlers must win state titles in all three styles of USA Sanctioned wrestling (Folkstyle, Greco-Roman and Freestyle). The Folkstyle Tournament was held on March 24th in Bismarck.
Hansen, Pre-Kindergarten, won his triple crown in the 40lb Sub-Bantam age division. Kallen cruised through his division, winning in dominant fashion in nearly every match. In his final match to complete the Triple Crown, Hansen fell behind 6-2 in in the first period. Hansen maintained his composure and mounted a furious comeback in the last period to win by a score of 15-8.
Miller, a 5th grader, wrestling in the 85lb Novice age division won his triple crown by defeating his opponents in both the Greco and the Freestyle tournament by pin or technical fall. This completed Miller’s 4th triple crown season of his career.
Larson, a Freshman, took home the triple crown in the 138lb Cadet Division. Larson also quickly dispatched all of his opponents by pin or technical fall in both the Greco and the Freestlyle tournaments.
With nine wrestlers and two tournaments, there were a possible 18 state titles at stake Express wrestlers took home 9 of the 18 possible state titles. Individual results are as follows:

Koltyn Grebel, Intermediate 70lbs—1st Place in Freestyle, 3rd Place in Greco
Koye Grebel, Novice 80lbs—2nd Place in Freestyle, 3rd Place in Greco
Ethan Miller, Novice 85lbs—1st Place in Freestyle, 1st Place in Greco
Will Schwehr, Novice 130lbs—1st Place in Freestyle, 1st Place in Greco
Parker Larson, Cadet 138lbs—1st Place in Freestyle, 1st Place in Greco
