CITY (NewsDakota.com) A fire damaged a garage attached to a home in northwest Valley City Thursday night.

Fire Chief Gary Retterath says a next door neighbor told him that the fire started inside the garage underneath a vehicle.

Retterath says the ignition point started under the hood of a car. The cause is under investigation.

The garage was engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived on the scene. Retterath says the owner was home at the time of the fire. He says the neighbor helped the owner get a few things out of the garage. No injuries were reported.

Retterath says the structure of the home was saved but the garage was destroyed in the fire.
