CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – With their backs against the wall, the University of Jamestown baseball team got the pitching performance of the year from senior Brad Bennett. Against the high-power No. 2 Bellevue Bruins, Bennett went the distance scattering seven hits and striking out eight in a 6-1 win.

Jamestown played small-ball with two early suicide squeezes to make it a 2-0 lead. Kory Wolden threw out a runner at the plate before Bellevue finally scored in the third on a Diego Iribarren single.

That was the last time the Bruins scored against Bennett. Jamestown added a run on a wild pitch before Christian Shouman knocked in a second with a sac fly in the seventh. Two more came across in the eighth.

Bellevue got the lead-off man on in the 9th-inning, but could not get him or anyone else across as the game ended on a fly-ball to Wolden.

Jamestown used a total of eight sacrifice hits in the game to manufacture runs.

The Jimmies will play the rubber-match with Bellevue at 11am Monday morning for a spot in the championship game. The winner will play at 5pm against the VCSU/Mayville St. winner, those two teams play following the morning game.
