N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Valley City softball closed out a busy week with a double header against Bismarck on Friday and 2 point EDC game against Fargo South on Saturday. The Hi-Liners were edged by The Demons 13-12 and 10-9 and routed The Bruins 17-1 in 6 innings.  After weekend play Valley City is 5-11 and 6-9 in the conference and is in 6th place. Tuesday they host Shanley.  

 

Friday

Game 1: Bismarck 13 VCHS 12

The Demons rallied after falling behind 7 runs in the first inning. They scored 3 in the 3rd and 4 in the 4th to tie it up. In bottom of the frame VCHS retook the lead 8-7. Bismarck scored twice in the 6th and had a 4 run 7th and The Hi-Liners were down 13-8 with 3 outs remaining. Four would cross in the bottom of the 7th but they left the tying run stranded at first. 

Bismarck pounded out 16 hits while holding The Hi-Liners to 8. Falicity Blair and Sam Hettinger went deep for Bismarck and Michaela Casey drove in 4. Lexi Ondracek had the big bat for Valley City with 2 hits including a home run and triple with 5 RBIs. Jayda Haugen drove in 2 runs and Mackenzie Pederson was 2 for 2 with an RBI. 

Emma Steckler got the win in relief. Valley City’s Grace Scherr pitched 7 innings with 5 walks and 4 strike outs. 

Game 2: Bismarck 10 VCHS 9

Down 4-0 VCHS tied the game in the 4th. The game went back and forth and was 9-9 heading into the 7th. Jamie Barta hit a double in the top of the 7th that scored Emma Barta making it 10-9. Valley City was set down in order in the bottom of the frame to end the contest. 

 The Hi-Liners put up 12 hits. Emily Murray had 4 hits in 4 at bats with a home run and 5 RBIs. McKenna Taylor also went yard. Kacee White hit a triple and drove in 2. Falicity Blair from Bismarck went 3 for 4. 

Neither starter factored in the decision, Kassidy Duttenhefner was the winner in 2.2 innings of relief. Hailey Schaefer gave up the winning running in her lone inning.

Saturday

VCHS 17  Fargo South 1

Valley City scored 17 runs on 15 hits and put the game out of reach with a 10 run 6th. Hailey Schaefer drove in 4 runs on 3 hits with a home run. Emily Murray also plated 4 runs. Mackenzie Pederson hit 2 double and had 3 RBIs. 

Becca Thompson pitched 3 innings of 2 hit ball to earn the win. Grace Scherr worked the final three frames and registered 4 strike outs.
