Marion Mandy, 89, died in the loving arms of her husband early Friday morning, May 5, 2017 at Twin Towers Villa, in Breckenridge, Minnesota. She was born Jan 15th 1928.  Her parents were Gordon and Margaret (Schiele) Brick of Devils Lake, North Dakota. She graduated from Devils Lake High School in 1945. Bernadine met John (Jack) Peter Mandy, the love of her life, in high school and they were joined in marriage September 28, 1948. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary this past September.

Throughout her married life, she and Jack moved many times as Jack’s work with the North Dakota State Highway Department took them to various locales. She and Jack spent the majority of their marriage living in Devils Lake, North Dakota and Valley City, North Dakota. They moved to Breckenridge in February of 2016.

She was a dedicated volunteer who could be counted on to organize and carry out programs from Cub Scouts, to church groups and community events.

As a young woman she worked as a librarian, a job she took great pride in.  She remained an avid reader throughout her life and always maintained her interest in current events. She enjoyed cataloging gardening books and recipe books for her children and grandchildren.

Bernadine was the dedicated mother of four children.  Her homemaking skills were unmatched and she excelled in cooking, gardening, and sewing. Family members all looked forward to her deviled eggs and delicious “Bernie Bars” at gatherings.

Dancing was another of Bernadine’s passions.  She learned to tap dance as a young girl and continued to dance throughout her life with her husband Jack in round dancing, square dancing and the dance line group she organized and led.

But of all her talents, it was her of love of animals that defined Bernadine. Wild birds, bunnies, stray cats and dogs knew she was the one to go to for food, rescue and unconditional love.

Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents Gordon and Margaret Brick, and sister Elsie Brick Black. She is survived by her husband Jack Mandy, and children Patrick Mandy of Foley, Minnesota, Scott Mandy (Gina) of Fargo, North Dakota, Terry Mandy (Patty) of Wahpeton, North Dakota, and Marci Axtman (Bill Mettenburg) of St. Joseph, Minnesota; grandchildren Mark Mandy, Shannon Mandy Olson (Mark), Rachael Mandy Bell (Orion), Kyle Axtman and Kelly Kroshus (Devin); step-grandchildren Matt, Crissy, and Nikki; and great-grandchildren Killian Olson, Nolan Olson, Willow Bell, Iris Bell, and Emma Kroshus.
