N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown City Council heard issues concerning positive and negative experiences of citizens with disabilities during their regular meeting Monday night.
University of Jamestown students were tasked with conducting a survey on behalf of the Mayor’s Committee on Disabilities. Beth Dewald is on the Mayor’s Committee on Disabilities.
Students Caleb Gwerder, Trevor Huebschwerlen, and Michael Hust presenting their findings in the two separate studies. One focused on the business leaders and their experiences with hired on help of disabled individuals. The other found information from the disabled in the community.
A total of 48 employers responded to the survey, which found that 37% of them had experience with employing a person with a disability.
When it came to disabled individuals, 24 responded and reported that they would like to see more handicapped accessibility, citing the U.S. Post Office in Jamestown. A full story will be reported on this later this week.
Later in the meeting, bids were discussed for the Menards to JRMC road construction. The project and lighting were bid separately and Mayor Katie Andersen gave the lowest bid winners numbers.
The project was approved unanimously.
Several other road projects were approved by the council including the 5th NE project and 2017 seal coat, patching, construction & reconstruction.
