past Saturday, April 29th, the VCSU Viking Club Tennis held their 3rd Annual Tennis Play-A-Thon fundraiser. The team members, and coach Kringlie, were challenged to play 50 total games within a 5-hour time limit to raise money for both the club team and the Valley City Tennis Association to help Valley City youth tennis. All team members and even coach Kringlie managed to reach all 50 games with about 30 minutes to spare, raising just over $1,800 for Valley City tennis! The club was lucky to have several community members, VCSU Faculty and Staff, Hi-Liner boys team members and Viking Tennis Alumni at the courts to compete with during the day. Food, water and Gatorade were provided throughout the day by the Valley City Tennis Association.
That evening, the Viking Club Tennis team finished off their 12th season with their annual awards banquet at the Valley City Country Club. The Vikings finished the season ranked 2nd in the United States Tennis Associations Northern Section and finished 8th overall at the Sectional Championship. The Vikings lose two amazing Seniors in Alex Conlon and Strella Navalta and honored their achievements over the years both on and off the court as VCSU students and Club Tennis members.
Quote from Coach Kringlie: “We had another amazing year with so many talented players and tons of travel around the Northern Section. Our team is so thankful for the incredible support we get from the VCSU campus, Valley City community and the VCTA! We will really miss our two incredibly talented Seniors Alex Conlon and Strella Navalta. Their talents both on and off the court sets a high bar for future Viking Club Tennis team members. With some great incoming talent next fall, I am really looking forward to another great Viking Club Tennis season in 2017/2018!”
