(NewsDakota.com) The community of Oakes has always been a group that rallies around a person or family when they are hurting or in need, and this Sunday, the community will once again come to the aid of a girl and her family who are dealing with quite the burden.

On February 20, 17 year old Danielle Brown of Oakes was severely injured in a two vehicle crash on North Dakota Highway 1 near Valley City which took the life of her friend 16 year old Ashley Meyer. Since the accident, Brown has been in a Fargo hospital, and has slowly been improving day by day.

Among her many activities, “Danni” is also a waitress at the Angry Beaver Lodge, and the Lodge will be hosting a fundraising event for Danni and her family on Sunday March 4, Danni’s 18th birthday from 10:30 a.m. to around 2 p.m.

The Lodge’s owner Shawn Ulmer says they will be grilling sirloin steaks, and serve chicken strips, along with salads, mashed potatoes and root beer floats. It is a free will offering, however, Ulmer asks that those in attendance donate $10.

Community businesses are also doing their part to help Dani and her family by donating what they can. A banner will be unveiled during the event on Sunday featuring those establishments who have raised funds.

If you wish to donate, make a check out to “Danni Brown Medical Fund” and deposit it at Starion Financial in Oakes, or mail it to the Angry Beaver Lodge, 221 North 14th Street in Oakes 58474.
