(NewsDakota.com) The Hillsboro-Central Valley girls and Milnor-Wyndmere-Lidgerwood boys track and field teams won their respective divisions at the Central Cass Invitational II Track & Field Meet in Casselton Tuesday.
H-CV won the girls meet with 109.5 points, M-W-L was second with 103 points, and the next highest area team total was Oakes with 55.5 points, good enough for seventh place.
Some of the highlights from the girls events on the track included Lanie Awender of Oakes and Kaitlyn Schiele of Edgeley-Kulm taking third and fourth place in the 100 meter dash. Schiele was also second in the 200 meter dash, and Edgeley-Kulm won the 4×100.
In the field, Sargent County’s Amber Peterson was second in the high jump, Oakes’ Claire Wagner tied for fourth in the pole vault and Bailey Skjefte finished fourth in the long jump.
Winners in field events included Edgeley-Kulm’s Kaityln Schiele in the triple jump, Sargent County’s Shelby Dietz in the Shot Put, and Oakes’ Shelby Roney with a state qualifying throw in the javelin.
On the boys side, M-W-L was first registering 144 points, with Edgeley-Kulm placing fourth with a team total of 62 points. Evan Braaten of M-W-L won the 110 and 300 meter hurdles, with Issac Huber of Edgeley-Kulm taking second in the 300. Huber also won the 800 and 1600 meter runs, with Oakes’ Layne Schmit placing third in the 1600. M-W-L’s Trey Lunneborg won the 100 and 200 meter dashes.
In the field, Braaten won the high jump, with teammates Adam Sakry finishing first in the long jump, and Charlie Moffet taking the top spot in the discus. Jorgen Paulson of Edgeley-Kulm was first in the triple jump.
