funeral service for Lloyd E. Schmidt, 96, Valley City, North Dakota will be 10:30 am Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be later in the spring at Memory Gardens, Valley City. He died Wednesday, April 5, at Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.
Lloyd E. Schmidt was born October 6, 1920 in Bismarck, North Dakota, the son of Alexander and Elizabeth (Buck) Schmidt. He attended school in Medina, North Dakota. Lloyd married Meta Koslofsky on June 5, 1947 in Valley City.
He held various jobs around Valley City including ownership of a gas station and neighborhood grocery store. Additionally he worked at UBC lumber yard and Pegg Garage. The last 19 years he spent working as a custodian at VCSU before retiring in 1985. After retirement he and Meta helped his son, Jerry, at Valley Drug with deliveries and cleaning.
In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, old cars, woodwork, his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Lloyd is survived by two children, and a daughter-in-law, Jerry (Edie) Schmidt, Valley City, Dona (Ron) Kirby, Auburn, WA, and Gwen Schmidt, Bismarck, ND; 12 grandchildren, Leora (Todd) Riedman, Lincoln, ND, Alaina (Andy) Fenton, Decatur, GA, Alex Schmidt, Mandan, ND, Larissa (Dave) Musgrave, Valley City, Kristen Schmidt, Robbinsdale, MN, Megan (Tony) Zarbano, Valley City, Cyrus (Ali) Kirby, Apple Valley, MN, Will (Tracy) Kirby, San Diego, CA, Josh (Vanessa) Brosten, Bismarck, Pete (Gina) Kirby, Fargo, ND, Emily (James) Clemons, Great Falls, MT, and Andrew Brosten, Billings, MT; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Allan in 2002, and his wife, Meta in 2004, brothers, Emil, Leo, William, Hugo and Norman; and sisters, Eugenia Klein, Hilda Schwecke, and Eleanor.
