CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The city of Valley City accepted the bid and awarded a contract to Reiner Contracting Inc., to be the main contractor for the second phase of the permanent flood protection project in Valley City.
KLJ spokesman Eric Gilbertson told the city commission a bid of $11,888,009.71 from Reiner Contracting Inc., was the most acceptable.
Residents will see most of the construction work from just south of the Rosebud Visitors Center parking lot toward 5th Avenue Southeast & Northwest.
The city commission approved a resolution to finalize the plans earlier this year and approved of the bid by Reiner Contracting Inc., during their regular meeting on April 4th.
The lion share of the construction project is tentatively set to begin in March of 2018 according to KLJ spokesman Eric Gilbertson.
80 percent of the funding for the $11.8 million project comes from the State Water Commission of North Dakota. The Valley City share is $2.36 million.
Once completed, a flood wall will protect the downtown district from future spring flooding in Valley City.
