CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The Central Cass Squirrels captured a District 2 title, while the Northern Cass Jaguars and Maple Valley Raiders punched their tickets for the Region I tournament in the final day of the District 2 tournament in Fargo Monday.
The Northern Cass Jaguars edged the Fargo Oak Grove Grovers 53-50 in the opening game Monday. Northern Cass led by 10 at the half, then trailed in the fourth quarter before rallying for the win. The win gives the Jags the three seed from District 2 to Region I.
Maple Valley then started hot and held on for a 57-47 win over Richland in the second regional qualifying game. The Raiders used a 22-3 run to take a 27-8 lead, then watched as the lead fell to as few as three before a late push sealed the win.
Rylee Nudell scored 20 for the Raiders, with Abbie Tinjum and Cassie Pautz each adding 12. Maple Valley will be seeded fourth from District 2.
In the title game, Central Cass got a big second half from Hannah Breske to upset top-seeded Kindred 59-47. Breske scored 14 of her 20 after halftime. Beth Voss added 10. Braidy Dahl scored 20 to lead the Vikings.
The Region I tournament starts Monday in Lisbon.
