N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Fire safety and preparedness has been a topic of high discussion after tragedy struck the Tufte family in Carrington.
Fire Chief Ken Wangen reports that the Carrington Volunteer Fire Department is teaming up with the American Red Cross Association to install free fire alarms in homes that request them.
“After submitting your request, you will be contacted by an American Red Cross representative with information for installation on April 8th,” a release reports.
“The American Red Cross Dakotas Region, covering North Dakota, South Dakota, and Northwest Minnesota, responded to more than 330 local incidents last year, providing immediate assistance to more than 1,000 people. In 2016, our team installed more than 3,500 free smoke alarms across the Dakotas Region,” reports Gretchen Hjelmstad, Chief Communications Officer for American Red Cross Dakotas Region.
The department and American Red Cross are also assisting residents with free fire alarm checks. You can make a request for a fire alarm by logging on to getasmokealarm.org or text “alarm” to 844-811-0100.
