N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Xcel has announced its largest wind power initiative yet, with seven wind farms planned in four different states.

The company will look to add 1,550 megawatts of total wind capacity, with 250 megawatts coming from two North Dakota projects. This proposal is expected to generate almost $200 million in property taxes over the life of the projects, including $30 million in North Dakota.

“North Dakota has a long history of embracing a true all-of-the-above energy strategy, which includes both renewable energies and fossil fuels, that is a model for other parts of the country,” stated U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp.

“Xcel Energy plays a critical role in helping to diversify our energy industry because of its strong investments in renewable energy, commitment to providing affordable energy for folks all across our state and in our region, and support of good jobs in our state.  The new projects announced today will strengthen North Dakota’s strong partnership with Xcel Energy, as well as help us harness the full force of our wind power, grow jobs, and produce clean energy in our communities.”

The wind farms in North Dakota will be built in Dickey, Morton, and Mercer counties. They will join Xcel’s Courtenay Wind Farm in Stutsman County and Border Winds Farm near Rolla, North Dakota.
