CITY, IA (NewsDakota.com) – There were some tense moments in the third quarter, much like when the two teams met a year ago. However, this time it was the University of Jamestown rolling off a big run to take control in an 87-63 victory over Oregon Tech in the NAIA first round.

“Last year, they punched us in the mouth and we didn’t respond. This year we did the punching in the second half,” said coach Greg Ulland after the big win.

Oregon Tech cut had been hanging around in the third quarter cutting the lead to single digits a few times, but Paige Emmel knocked down one her three triples to deliver what amounted to the knock out blow to push the lead to 13. Jamestown never looked back.

They pushed their lead to high as 29 in the final quarter. Kyra Dewald with 18 in just 21 minutes lead five Jimmies in double-figures. Taylor Hammer (12), McKayla Orr (11), Emmel (13) and Watts (10) were all north of 10 in the game.

Jamestown will play Davenport at 8:30am on Friday in the first game of the Sweet 16. You can listen to the coverage on ESPN Jamestown and NewsDakota.com
