N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Larry Knoblich says the event started after he and a friend heard about a similar event in Grand Forks.
This year’s run will be held on Saturday, March 18th. The Jamestown Runnin’ O The Green started in 1978 when Larry and his friend Rush Michael first pitched the idea.
The event has since grown into a well-attended Jamestown event, bringing in runners and participants from all across the region. Knoblich stated the first event had only 23 runners, but the biggest event they had hosted roughly 2,350 participants.
The run has individuals begin at the Frontier Fort, then proceed to run down the hill and through the community, making stops at local bars in the community. The event has raised thousands of dollars for several charities and local cancer care patients.
Money is also donated to Elks Camp Grassick every year. Knoblich says after 39 years, he stills walks the course and enjoys an alcoholic beverage at the end.
Participants can register at the Elks Club the night before the event, Cork and Barrel Liquors, Wildside Creations, and Dakota Bank in Jamestown. Cost to participate is $30 and that includes a T-shirt. More information by visiting their Facebook page.
