N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – “Out of gas” would be a good way to describe the Jamestown High girls basketball team when they took the floor Saturday in a state qualifier against Bismarck. The third day of the WDA tournament is always the toughest and the Jays couldn’t find their groove in a 59-48 loss.
Jamestown started on a 5-2 lead and were unable to take advantage of Bismarck’s extremely slow start. They didn’t make a field goal until five minutes in. The Demons came out of their slump scoring 15 of 17 to take the lead for good.
They Jays cut it to seven with 10 minutes remaining in the game, but Bismarck, as they had done all afternoon, came up with another big shot or two. Emma Steckler and Mady Mosolf hit triples on consecutive possessions to make the lead 13 again.
Megan Gaffaney lead the Jays with 10. They finished the season 11-13.
Bismarck moved onto the state tournament and will play EDC champ Shanley at 1pm on Thursday afternoon.
