N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The National Sports Media Association announced their state award winners today and ESPN Jamestown sports director Steve Linzmeier was named the North Dakota sportscaster of the year for 2016.

Back in November, Linzmeier was named a finalist along with KFGO’s Brad Anderson and KFYR’s Scott Woodmansee. The statewide sports media are asked to nominate candidates and then vote on the finalist.

Linzmeier is the first Jamestown sportscaster to win the award.  Five different sportswriters from the Jamestown Sun have won the state sportswriter of the year award, dating back to Sam Lowe in 1960 and as recent as Chris Aarhus in 2014.

The state sportswriter of the year is Brad Schlossman of the Grand Forks Herald.

The winners will be honored at a banquet in Winston-Salem, NC in June.
