CITY , N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The city of Valley City approved a request by KLJ engineering to let bids for phase II of the permanent flood protection project that focuses on the downtown district.
KLJ spokesman Eric Gilbertson told the commission that preliminary work on the proposed $14 million project will begin this summer once a contractor is selected maybe as early as April.

Gilbertson said the work will center on Main Street between Central Avenue and 5th Avenue northwest. He said some preliminary work will begin this summer in Valley City.
Valley City Commissioner Matt Pedersen is also the Flood Task Force Committee Chairman. He said the city had come a long way since the flood fight of 2009.
The city commission approved a resolution to finalizes the plans and authorize the bidding process to move forward during a special city commission meeting on Thursday, February 23rd.
The big construction project is tentatively set to begin in March of 2018.
