N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Last Saturday and for the fourth year in a row, the Carrington Cardinals wrestling team won the Region 2 Dual Championship. The 2-time defending state champs will advance to the State Tournament in Fargo running February 16th-18th at the FargoDome. Carrington beat Hillsboro for the championship, 45-32. The Cardinals were the number four seed out of eight teams heading into the tourney, but had all of their wrestlers on the mat to help secure the championship. In the regular season, the Cardinals were 5-4 in duals, but were plagued by injuries. On Saturday, everybody was healthy. The Cardinals beat Grafton 45-33 in the quarters, Pembina County North 44-27 in the semifinal.
Region 2 will be represented by Carrington and Pembina County North at the state tourney as the two top teams advance to state. PCN came back and beat Hillsboro for true second place.
Third place: Pembina County North DEF. Central Cass 41-40
Championship: Carrington DEF. Hillsboro 45-32
Challenge daul: PCN DEF. Hillsboro 48-35
