N.D. (JimmieAthletics.com) – The University of Jamestown basketball teams won all four of their games this weekend at the Jamestown Civic Center while hosting Waldorf and Viterbo.

WBB: #12 Jimmies 89, Viterbo 49

A 19-0 first quarter run staked the Jimmie women’s basketball team to a 24-4 lead after the first quarter, and No. 12 Jamestown did not look back in an 89-49 win over Viterbo (Wis.) in NSAA conference play Saturday.

UJ’s relentless trapping defense forced the V-Hawks into comitting seven turnovers in the opening 10 minutes, and when Viterbo was able to get the ball across halfcourt, the visitors made only two of 12 shots in the quarter.

A night after tying the school record with 20 three-pointers, the Jimmie women’s basketball team relied on more of an inside game for their offense. Jamestown attempted only 16 threes, connecting on six, but were 23-of-42 (54.8%) inside the arc. Taylor Hammer (SR/Grand Forks, ND) had 15 points, with nine of them coming from the free throw line, to go along with seven rebounds and two blocked shots.

Kyra Dewald (SR/Jamestown, ND) led the Jimmies (17-4, 12-0 NSAA) with 19 points and six steals. She also added four assists and four rebounds. Paige Emmel (JR/Bismarck, ND) had 14 points off the bench, making 4-of-5 threes. McKayla Orr (JR/Ypsilanti, ND) was also in double figures, scoring 11 points. Jory Mullen (SO/Pierre, SD) chipped in with eight points and five rebounds.

MBB: Jimmies 82, Viterbo 65

Jake Hagler (SR/Cando, N.D.) scored 20 points, dished out six assists, and grabbed five rebounds to lead four UJ players in double figures as the Jimmies stayed two games back of conference leader Dickinson State with an 82-65 win over Viterbo (Wis.) Saturday.

Logan Brown (SR/Roseville, Minn.) finished with 18 points, five rebounds, and four steals. Sam Johnson (JR/Mora, Minn.) added 12 points off the bench, and Jon Purintun (SO/Linton, N.D.) chipped in with 10 as Jamestown (12-11 overall, 8-4 NSAA) won its third straight game and fifth of its last six.

Jacob Havron (SR/Pukalani, Hawaii) and Riley Henderson (SO/Bismarck, N.D.) each had six rebounds for the Jimmies.

The Jimmies started the game quickly, taking a 9-2 lead after four points from Riley Henderson, a bucket by Brown, and a triple from Hagler. Viterbo responded by scoring 10 of the next 16 points, and Ethan Haberman’s basket with 12:49 in the first made it 15-12.

An unfazed UJ squad countered with a 16-6 run of its own over the next 5:21 to take a 13-point lead. That lead would get no smaller than 12, and by halftime, turned into an 18-point cushion.

After Purintun’s basket gave Jamestown its biggest lead of the night at 19, 54-35 with 14:19 left, Viterbo gradually chipped away and got within nine points, 72-63, with 2:39 left in the game.

The veteran Jimmies closed out the game by scoring 10 of the final 12 points and hanging on for a 17-point victory.
