CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City-Barnes County Development Corporation officially created a new position in response to employer and workforce needs.

Valley City Barnes County Director of Development Jennifer Feist said we are pleased to announce that Trinity Potts has accepted our offer and started immediately as our Employee Retention & Recruiting Coordinator.

Trinity Potts is originally from LaMoure, North Dakota and will graduate from Valley City State University with a degree in Psychology and Human Services this spring. She has been working part-time for the Development Corporation and will become full-time upon graduation.

She said establishing this new position is an important one. The purpose of the Coordinator position is to serve as the primary contact for employee retention. The Corporation is working to create quality employment opportunities through primary sector business development; however, retention is equally important.  The Coordinator’s responsibility includes building relationships by working with employers and community partners to help connect people. When people make connections and they feel they are part of the community, they may be much more likely to stay and make this their home.

Tony Kobbervig, President of the Development Corporation said, ‘We’re excited Trinity has accepted the position and becoming an important part of the economic development effort.”

JoAnn Hooper, President Elect of the Development Corporation said through communications and partnering with local employers, this position will help the community create enhanced career and quality of life opportunities for its members.

Paige Bjornson, Past President of the Development Corporation, said “Attracting and retaining employees and their families, and enhancing employee engagement within the community, will develop new relationships and grow the next generation of community members and leaders.”

Feist said the creation of this position is also in response to the closure of the Valley City Job Service office in 2016. The Coordinator would assist employers by participating in their recruiting cycle, provide community tours and post job openings on-line or in the Job Service system. Job seekers would receive assistance with registering and posting resumes in the Job Service system, which is interconnected with multiple job search organizations.

Feist said assistance with unemployment or other benefits is not included. This portion of the position is expected to start in 3 to 6 months.
