CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Several School Districts don’t support a House bill that if passed, would allow a school employee to carry a concealed firearm if they have the proper training. The bill is sponsored by Valley City Representative Dwight Kiefert.
Former legislator Phil Mueller says he and a number of teachers and school administrators don’t believe it’s a good idea.
Valley City Schools Superintendent Josh Johnson says the SRO does more than just carrying a gun.
Kiefert believes the measure would give rural school district a better chance to respond to a school shooting.
Kindred Public Schools Superintendent Steve Hall told Kiefert he didn’t believe there was to much support for Kiefert’s House bill across the state.
Those comments were made during the District 24 Legislative Forum held on Saturday, January 21st in Valley City.
Earlier this month, the Valley City School District approved an agreement with the city of Valley City to hire a school resource officer for the next five years.
