Celebration of the Life of Lila Myers will be held at the Lerud-Schuldt-Mathias Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 7:00 PM. Visitation will be held there beginning at 5:00 PM. This spring, a graveside service will take place at Hillside Cemetery, near Valley City. Lila died at Eventide in Fargo, ND on January 20, 2017 at the age of 101.
Lila Mary Kurtti was born to August and Mary (Nickson) Kurtti on March 4, 1915. She grew up in the Sutton, ND area where she attended school. Lila worked as a housekeeper for a time before being united in marriage to Glenn Myers. They were married in November of 1936, making their home in Minnesota where they farmed.
The couple moved back to the Myers family farm near Leal, ND to raise their family. They farmed there from the early 1940s to the early 1970s. After retirement, they moved to Valley City, ND. Following Glenn’s death in 2009, Lila made her home in Jamestown, living in the Garden Hills Apartments. In 2014, she moved to Fargo.
Lila was affectionately called Granny by all who knew her. She was a very active lady, but first and foremost was her family. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Valley City along with United Methodist Women. She belonged to Eastern Star. In her free time, she gardened, “made the best buns, pies and cookies ever”, and loved a good game of cards. She and Glenn were able to travel a bit after retiring and were known to be some of the best bowlers in town, proving it by bringing home the title of City Champions.
Granny will be missed by her surviving family. She is survived by her daughter, Gloria Ochsner of Fargo, ND; son, Curtis (Betty) Myers of Sun City, AZ; daughter-in-law, Janice Myers of Jamestown, ND; grandchildren, Todd Myers, Trent Myers, Dale (Chantell) Christensen, Janine Christensen Walker, Denise (Curt) Waldie, Joshua (Tami) Ochsner, Daniel (Amber) Ochsner, and Peter Ochsner; 15 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn; son, Alvin Myers; daughter, Deloris “Susie” Christensen; son-in-law, R.J. “Shorty” Christensen; a grandson, Caleb Ochsner; and all of her siblings.
Lerud-Schuldt-Mathias Funeral Home in Valley City will be assisting Lila’s family with arrangements. An online guestbook and tribute page has been set up at www.lerudschuldt.com.
