CITY (NewsDakota.com) Day number one of the 2017 playing of the Barnes County Boys Basketball Tournament saw four games that were, for the most part, one sided affairs.
Milnor-North Sargent 80, Barnes County North 28
In the first of the four games, the Bulldogs, the number ten team in the state shot a blistering 66.7 percent from the field, compared to the Bison’s 21.4 percent. MNS outscored BCN 27-2 in the first and fourth quarters combined.
Jacob Hanson had a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds in the victory. The Bison had a team high 13 points from Allen Contreras.
Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page 57, LaMoure-Litchville/Marion 38
The Spartans were up by eight at half, before outscoring the Loboes 22-10 in the third quarter to pull away. FSHP managed to shoot just under 50 percent from the field for the game, whereas LLM managed around 30 percent.
Ethan Brown lead the way for the Spartans with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Alex Klever netted 19 points for the Loboes.
Griggs County Central 58, Enderlin 38
Enderlin came in seeded second in the tournament, but couldn’t find their shooting stroke and quickly found themselves in a hole they couldn’t get out of. GCC’s Rylan Briss scored 10 of his game-high 19 points in the first quarter as the Cougars built their lead.
Maple Valley 51, Sargent Central 40
Every time Sargent Central started to fight their way back into the game Maple Valley had answer, the biggest swing came just before the half. The Cadets scored to cut the deficit to seven, but at the buzzer Jacob Johnson knocked in a three to push the halftime lead to 10.
Sargeny Central got it down to six in the fourth quarter, but a quick 6-0 run by the Raiders ended their momentum. Hunter Smith scored a game-high 18 for Maple Valley.
Friday’s play starts at 3 p.m. with Barnes County North and LaMoure-Litchville/Marion, followed by Enderlin and Sargent Central.
